El mejor folleto que he le�do.

No se dejen llevar por el titulo, la informaci�n que trae este manga/libro es simple. Pero es algo que todos deben de tomar en cuenta para su vida laboral.
Considero que es lo suficientemente amena para que un adolescente lo lea y desde le principio sepa que decisiones son mejores para llevar una vida laboral plena.
Pienso que con la ayuda de un buen guionista de manga o comic, este pudo haber sido una buena miniserie de 6 o mas n�meros. Para que fuera mas entretenido, con explicaciones mas en la trama que en di�logos directos.
La idea del escritor es muy buena y espero mas escritores la tomen en cuenta.
El dibujante es muy bueno y trasmite muy bien el ambiente.

About the Author
Though Colorado is home, Carol Berg's roots are in Texas, in a family of teachers, musicians, and railroad men. She has degrees in mathematics from Rice University and computer science from the University of Colorado, but managed to squeeze in minors in English and art history along the way. She has combined a career as a software engineer with her writing, while also raising three sons. She lives with her husband at the foot of the Colorado mountains.

Gripping tale that takes the Collegia Magica series to the top level

INTRODUCTION: "The Spirit Lens" was the first novel by the author that I read completely and I quite liked it. Towards last January's review of it, I said:

"After I got into the style of the novel and its happenings started hooking me, its main attraction were the twists and turns and the characters about whom slowly we start having quite different impressions than at the start. Revelations from the past coupled to traits that come at fore only after a while mean that what we believe at the beginning will be quite changed by the end. This unpredictability raised The Spirit Lens most in my estimation since in so many genre books the characters are marked: "the destined one, the sidekick, the love interest, the villain, the noble but doomed one", while here there is much more subtlety and even at the end when we seemingly know a lot more, there is a lot of uncertainty at least with regard to the big picture."

As time passed, The Spirit Lens stayed much more in memory than other books I seemingly enjoyed more on first read, so it got a place in my recommended books of 2010, while its sequel "The Soul Mirror" became a high expectation novel for 2011. And it delivered!

The following part will have spoilers for The Spirit Lens, so beware if you have not read it so far.

OVERVIEW/ANALYSIS: The first thing to know about "The Soul Mirror" is that while a first person narration as The Spirit Lens, it switches narrators from Portier to Anne du Vernase who was a relatively minor character in the first novel, though her actions are quite important at the end of it.

Four years after the end of The Spirit Lens, 22 year old Anne du Vernase, goddaughter of King Philippe is trying hard to keep her family estate going with a disappeared father condemned in large part by her testimony as murderer and traitor, a mad mother now in keeping of her brothers far away, an imprisoned brother and a magician younger sister whose discoveries kill her just before the novel starts - at the magical College at Seravain where the 17 year old was studying. And they don't even let Anne inside when she goes to collect her sister's belongings.

The hated Portier, the investigator who broke open the big treason/necromancy case in The Spirit Lens and was the prosecutor in the King's name at the trial in-absentia of her father and his accomplices, arrives with a royal warrant demanding Anne to come to Queen Eugenie's palace in Merona as a maid of honor while also announcing the dispossession of the Vernase estates for the treason of the king's former bosom friend.

Portier is now the chief of the Queen's household administration, his former friend/helper Dante is the Queen's magician and a figure of dread and darkness, Ilario is still playing the fool, and the Queen's (adopted) mother and former Regent, Antonia is playing an "I want power" manipulation game with the Queen and her semi-estranged and pretty much always away husband King, while portents of dread and magic are continually seen in Merona.

Anne is thrown into the fray where nothing is at is seems, friends and enemies are hard to discern, while the Aspirant (supposedly her vanished traitor father) and his clique are ready to take the final step in the plans laid so long ago and that were only partly thwarted in The Spirit Lens...

If this description does not hook you let's talk about the other strengths of the novel. The narration of Anne is pitch perfect and seemed to me much smoother than Portier's from the first page. It may just be that I got used with the author' style in this series, but the pages really turned by themselves and the book hits no narrative walls.

The characters of The Spirit Lens are now seen through Anne's quite different perspective and I greatly enjoyed the glimpses we got of Portier and Ilario, while Dante becomes the truly dominant character - even as an object of fear and dread for Anne - that Portier's narration could not really portray him. We encounter other old friends and sometimes quite different facets of them than in The Spirit Lens, while the nasty and power-hungry Antonia is enjoyably loathsome and naive new Queen's physician Roussel, a kindly middle-aged commoner may be Anne's only friend at the court, or at least this is what she believes...

The Soul Mirror takes place in a shorter period of time than The Spirit Lens - as in there chapters are named by day/time - and the tension builds inexorably towards a powerful action filled last part that is awesome. Twists and turns abound and while some are of "could it really be?" far-fetched ones that experienced fantasy readers always enjoy guessing, others are more easily discernible, though all-in-all they keep the reader on his or her toes all the time.

The only minor niggle I has was that the author truly puts a lot on Anne's shoulders and at some point, I was thinking, enough, let the girl have a break, though she proves more than adept to handle her known enemies.

The world building is even better than in the first novel - again familiarity helps, but The Soul Mirror brings quite a lot of new things to what we know from The Spirit Lens - and there are quite a few moments that make one want to revisit the book quite a few times.

A novel that stakes an early claim to my Top 10 list of 2011 - currently at #2-#3 - The Soul Mirror (A++) takes the Collegia Magica series to the next level with a gripping tale that essentially ends all the threads from The Spirit Lens, though enough loose ends are left so new series books can follow. Magic, science, family feuds, a kingdom and maybe even a world - or at least its laws of nature - in peril, a great heroine with a superb cast and traditional fantasy does not get better than this!

Magical writing and characters

Anne de Vernase, 22 years old, "plain, dull, and poor," a devoted believer of science, a magic skeptic, hailing from a once-perfect-now-crumbled family, is about to have her already messed-up world shredded apart even more thoroughly. Her mother is insane, her father is an infamous fugitive, her younger brother is held prisoner by the king, and she's just learned that her magically talented younger sister is died. Then the calculating, cold Portier de Savin-Duplais (ex-librarian and failed sorceror, who went undercover and pointed the damning finger at her father with tales of evil magic conspiracies in "The Spirit Lens") arrives at her declining family estate. He brings a very relunctant Anne to the royal castle.

There, she finds that her life is even more unstable than she realizes. She meets extraordinary people: a beautiful, infertile, damaged queen; a foolish yet most noble knight; a devoted, kindly doctor. Portier de Savin-Duplais constantly watches her, but he is annoyingly unhelpful and Anne cannot determine his role in the game. And Dante, the green-eyed demonish mage who charges the very air with sinister magic and dark secrets, scares the bones out of her knees. Anne can't even be certain of what is real and what isn't. Did her sister die in a cruel accident, a murder, or is there yet another explanation? Does that voice in her head mean she is going insane, too? And is magic, so easy to deny before, actually a great and terrible reality in her world?

Anne is a wonderful heroine. Portier was the (very awesome) hero of the first (very awesome) book, "The Spirit Lens," and it's interesting to see how much Anne dislikes him in this second book. Anne has a strong, capable, very real voice. While trying to uncover the secrets around her and trying to save her family, Anne proves very intelligent and sharp--yet she also makes her own fair share of mistakes and she's vulnerable. She can't stop the power-hungry Lady Antonia from scheming her unwanted betrothal to a brutish lord, and she can't rescue her brother from jail after a heartbreaking visit. But Anne plods on, and things go from bad to worse, and the truth twists and turns in wholly unexpected ways.

I love it when the supporting characters are just as interesting as (or perhaps even more interesting than) the main characters. Lord Ilario as the court fool and noble knight is awesome (so, so awesome), and although we saw little of her, Lady Patrice was also a likeable surprise. I loved very glimpse of Portier I got. Ambrose's suffering and hard bitterness is tragic. But Dante becomes the mysterious, dark, truly fascinating force to watch out for.

Carol Berg's prose is just splendid. I can't wait for Daemon Prism, the third book. I need a time machine to travel to next year.

Great writing, wonderful story

Carol Berg's books get better and better. While I did not so much enjoy her earlier novels, her previous Lighthouse Duology (Flesh & Spirit, Breath and Bone), was wonderful. This Collegia Magica trilogy is, if possible, even better.

The writing is elegant, lyrical and fluid. The various characters are vivid and multi-dimensional. It's exciting to read about people of whom not much is thought in the world, who develop and emerge as far more than what they were at the beginning. Often when I write a critique of a book on Amazon, I describe how I could not care about the characters in a novel (which otherwise I might have enjoyed tremendously). This is not a complaint I have about these books!

Regarding the plot, other reviewers have gone into far more detail, so I don't think I need to repeat anything here. Suffice it to say that these novels combine the best of what I enjoy in genre fiction: mystery, fantasy, historical background, etc. I can't wait till the next installment of the Collegia Magica trilogy.

great job - I thought it was an excellent approach for both a beginner and advanced trader who wants to get started in candlestick trading. As usual you cover many angles there is to know about trading which not only includes the candlestick patterns, psychology, and their little nuances( like tails in a consolidation ) but you also offer added knowledge on trading the markets as well. You give a great roadmap for trading trends by using trend lines, moving averages and swing points to denote support and resistance as well as giving great insight with some helpful filters such as market indicators, volume and the understanding of volatility that the markets go through (ie expansion and contraction). Lastly the section on the risk reward ratio is a topic that every trader needs to be reminded for continued success.

Great trading book

This book was very well written. The other books I have read on Candlesticks have basically offered bland descriptions without establishing their relationship to trading. I really enjoyed the way it integrated candlesticks with the other important aspects of trading and showed their relationship to Trend, Volatility, Oscillators and Gaps. It not only gives descriptions of the most profitable candlesticks, it also shows how to use them in conjunction with moving averages, stochastics, divergence and other related trading concepts. This book is the best general trading overview that I have found. As a result of reading the book I feel I am finally beginning to "get it." I only read the book last week and I have already made money by incorporating what I learned into my trades. I have started my second read to reinforce the learning process.

I am planning to order more copies for my friends who need help with their trading.

Concise, Comprehensive and Excellent

I have been educating myself in Trading for just over a year. I have bought waaaaay too many books on candlestick, technical analysis, trading psychology, systems, etc. I might still have bought some of those books but if I purchased this book first, I would have bought far less. The author ties candlestick to technical analysis in simple, understandable and realistic ways. Yes, this book might best for beginning or intermediate traders but I was refreshed on so many basic concepts it kind of bothered me that I had laid waste to them. The author did a great job on the charts--they are contemporary and readily understood. Nice job...so many other books and charts make you break out the magnifying glass just to find the obscure reversal. Good job, good book, good information.

Good, required but online stuff was very helpful also

I purchased the book because at the last minute I needed the test sheet. When, in five years, I need to take the test again I will not purchase the book but use the online resources I found when I looked up "ServSafe." I paid for one of the online classes and three of the questions on the assessment were referenced from the online class I took. There are also very helpful apps. My only e commendation is to order the test sheet early so that you don't have to pay for the book to get it. Used for 1st year CHEF class. This book is organized with pictures, lists, highlight boxes, preview and review sections, key points, a glossary and an index. Some sections seem a bit disorganized even though the author(s) claim it has been deliberately set up for student success. Mheh.

...Not new!

I decided to buy this book because it claimed it was new and the price was fair. IT WAS NOT A NEW ONE! It was obvious a used one, in a neat condition thou. This book should includes a code to take a test online. The code was missing so that means that i have to buy it separate. I have to pay $50.00 for just that code. Very disappointed! It is like paying for a brand new book from borders without the two weeks i had to wait to be delivered. I learn my lesson, I am not buying more books here.
if you are planning to buy a new book, make sure it is NEW and includes everything you need. Nowadays books are coming with access to websites with more useful information and/or testing. I would say, save the hassle and buy one from a place you are sure are new. Unless you are just expecting the hard copy of the book.

A reference for years to come...

Over the last few months I have been reading and re-reading the book, while studying it with a friend of mine. During that time there has been so much simmering in me and I have been sorting through various things that the book has brought up in me. While I was a bit skeptical at first as to how the book would apply to me, I can honestly say that for myself {and for the friend I'm reading it with} it has been a definite 'God-timing' read.

Jackie Kendall grew up in a completely dysfunctional family ~ suffering abuse as a child and living through the pain of two siblings committing suicide. She is amazingly transparent and open in her writing, sharing how she has learned what a forgiving lifestyle is truly about.

Throughout the book, Jackie address various aspects of forgiveness: reasons we don't forgive, counterfeit forgiveness, saying goodbye to shame, authentic forgiveness and the tools to forgiveness. She also addresses the six most commonly used excuses we use in not forgiving others:

1. The offense was too great.
2. The memories of the offense are so vivid.
3. The offense was repeated.
4. You want to make the person pay for the offense.
5. You are too angry to even consider forgiving this person.
6. The offender didn't say, "I am sorry."

The one thing that has impacted me the most from this book is the difference between forgiveness and reconciliation. In my mind the two were so entwined - but the two are separate in nature. This passage from Jackie's book describes it so well:

"Forgiving is a gift I give because of Jesus' gift to me. It is a gift I bestow upon my offender and a gift I give to myself. Forgiveness is also a gift I give to God. Such a response in faith and obedience is, indeed, an offering to God. Reconciliation is the gift exchanged between me and the offender when he or she has repented. Because I have already forgiven, I am not held hostage to that person's offensive behavior, waiting for him or her to repent. Forgiveness is my being set free, and reconciliation is when the relationship between me and the offender is healed."

Jackie breaks things down so well, gives great examples throughout the book, and provides excellent 'personal questions' to help you understand the heart of forgiveness. Free Yourself to Love has challenged me on so many different levels ~ this book is one that I am still pouring over and will be referencing for years to come.

We all have someone who we are holding a grudge against, but how do we let go? Jackie Kendall is embracing the subject of forgiving those unforgiveables in your life. NOT forgiving someone is a sin; she explains how and why this is so, and why if you want to move on and have loving relationships you need to conquer that. I thought this book was great. We all have baggage from our pasts that really threaten our happiness in the future. I know I had feelings of unforgiveness against my ex-husband. This really opened my eyes to how to find forgiveness towards him and how that could open up my future. Whether you're angry at an abusive husband or parent, a friend who said the wrong thing, people in your office, or even your children Jackie helps you understand why you need to forgive them, and how to do it. The book also examines the artificial forgiveness we all seem to practice on a daily basis. Have you ever told little white lie excusing people's actions to their faces and then silently stew about the offense. This book is a must read for just about everyone. Believe me, it will shine a bit of light in places you didn't know you had to work on!

Oh, to live long enough!

I am in my seventies and hope that I live long enough to finish this great series. Ten books, please Mr. Sanderson, don't take as long to finish the series as this book did to finish. I know great books take a great deal of time to write but at my age, I don't know how much time I have left to enjoy pleasures such as these novels.

I am a voracious reader, mostly action, spy, counter terrorism etc. My daughter reads like I do and she reads these fantasy epics. Her son, my grandson, gave me a copy of the Way of Kings for Christmas 2012 saying it was his favorite book of all time, and he is a chip of the ole' block. He is a huge reader also.

I so enjoyed that book that I couldn't wait until this second in the series came out, bought it for my Kindle the day before and it was ready to read the next day.

I haven't finished it yet, but, almost. I have not been disappointed in any way except that I will soon be finished and then what? My daughter has suggested that I start on another of Mr. Sanderson's novels and I believe that is what I am going to do.

So, thanks to my grandson Victor and his mom, Stephanie, I am now a fan of fantasy fiction and especially, Brandon Sanderson.

Brandon Sanderson has crafted another edition of what is becoming one of the best fictional epics in history.

You read a book. It is highly diverting, incredibly entertaining. And then you move on... Not with this book. It gets inside of you! Roshar is one of the most original, unique, alien, and compelling fantasy worlds every created. And the characters that inhabit it are full-bodied, vibrant, and dynamic. Just when you think you've got someone figured out... Wham! another piece of the puzzle emerges, and everything you thought you knew shifts, realigns and refocuses. Then you see a bigger picture, and begin to grasp what you think these people and their world really look like. Then something else emerges, the puzzles changes, and new pieces fall into place. You would feel almost betrayed, if it wasn't so much fun! And then he does it again, and Again, and AGAIN!

Brandon's fiction is not just superb entertainment, it is great literature. It is an art form that teaches about love, hope, honor, betrayal, fear, anger, revenge, mercy, and justice. People might wonder about the many side-stories, interludes, and seemingly random snippets woven throughout Words of Radiance. Just you wait. The vague puzzle pieces from Way of Kings (Stormlight #1) are now (mostly) clearer, and those that are not, well, this is a 10-book epic. There are plot lines running the entire course of this series that are only just getting started.

I was there when Brandon released his first novel, Elantris. I remember walking up to him at a signing table in the BYU Bookstore, an author no one had ever heard of, and asking him what his book was about, His answer, not surprisingly, was read and find out. I devoured Elantris, and have since attended many of his release events and read every book he has ever published (and one or two that he hasn't). I have read more fantasy books than I care to count, and Brandon Sanderson is the real deal. Your grandkids are going to be reading these books, and I for one cannot wait to see where Mr. Sanderson takes us!

Brilliant!!!

Warning: Only start this book if you have the time to put your life on hold for at least a couple of days, because this is not one that can be put down easily!! And it's not a short read!! I suggest the immersion reading version - the audible narrators bring the characters to life and the kindle version has some additional art, charts, maps, etc, as well as a few differences in wording, including complete sentences at times that have been changed or left out. Not many, and not of any significance, however.

Rather than say this is one of the best books I've ever read, I will say this is absolutely one of my favorites that I have ever read. Which means something very different to me. To say a book is one of the best books I've ever ready, means I thought the writing was spectacular or well above par in almost every aspect that makes a great story, to become one of my favorites, however, requires more than just brilliant writing, it requires me to fall in love with the characters, to feel their pain, emotions, failures, losses, grief, as well as their moments of hope, strength, growth, change, and finally rise to the challenges or conflict they must face.

I was at first intrigued by the characters in this series, and before long deeply invested in them. The world building- people's, kingdoms, cultures, organizations, geography, history, myths, and magic, are unique, and expansive!

If the books in this series continue to be anything like the first two, this could become one of the grandest epic fantasy series of all times. Right now my favorite is the Mallazan Books of the Fallen by Steven Erickson - 10 giant books in a grand epic fantasy by an amazing writer and story teller. Brandon, hope to see at least 7 more of these:)
